Transit Report, First Km Last Km Report - UPDATE

The City released a report on their plans for servicing neighbourhoods including Wedgewood that are facing the loss of bus service in the new Transit Network Plan. The following is a link to the First Km Last Km Transit Challenge Report.
The report was presented to City Council on January 15, 2019 and the recommendation approved was to have
Administration bring a report back to the Committee in November 2019 that includes:
1. an analysis and redeployment options of community transit service resources to identify possible transit solutions for neighbourhoods.
2. an additional analysis of neighbourhoods with walking distances greater than a minimum of 600-800 meters to a transit bus stop or facility.
3. a response to the recommendations presented in the January 15, 2019, Edmonton Transit Services Advisory Board report CR_6413.
4. options that would increase the number of communities that can be served by the various first km/last km options.
The Wedgewood Transit Committee continues to work with other neighbourhoods impacted and will continue to advocate for regular service for our community. Updates will be posted to the website.

Just read an article re: the “Funicular”. The operating and maintenance costs were over $700,000 in 1 year. How many bus rides down Wedgewood Boulevard would that provide? Why is there money for frivolous diversions, but no money for basic essential services?! Cover the essential services first, then buy the “toys”.

We need to have updates on the website for the progress of the Bus and Noise Committees. What have they done and what are their plans for the future?

How could the recommendation be to receive a “March 19, 2019” report as information? This means that you are pre-approving the report. Why is the report dated March 19, 2019? Shouldn’t the date of the report be the date it was completed and not some date in the future?

Article in Feb. 27 Edmonton Journal, re: bus service, says that “...drivers say they’re seeing dozens of fare evasions each shift, with sometimes every other rider breezing past the fare box (withou paying) in certain areas of town”. Is this why they’re withdrawing our bus service? So that other people can have “free” service? This isn’t right.

I need to take the bus to and from work. I have knee pain and cannot walk very far. Removing the bus service in Wedgewood will put me into a very stressful situation. We need the bus services in Wedgewood badly. Thanks very much!

We should develop a summary of the salient points that pertain to Wedgewood. The actual City report is hard to read and nearly impossible to decipher without multiple readings. We should have some suggested strategies for residents.
